Set in the tranquil Sussex countryide below the South Downs, at the head of the Cuckmere valley, this working farm has a variety of camping pitches or accommodation. Walking, cycling, or motoring, with easy access to transport, footpaths, the Vanguard Way, it is well placed for exploring the South Downs Country Park, the Ashdown Forest, and the Sussex coast. |

We want our visitors to enjoy our countryside and just for a while to be able to get away from modern life and appreciate the nature all about. There are plenty of places to visit during the day, beautiful walks, the coast, the South Downs, ancient villages, country houses and gardens, and of course old pubs. Build your own campfire in the evening and toast marshmallows, download an app and try to name the stars, or just be silent and hope to see our barn owl glide past
Arriving at Mill Farm fifty five years ago, from a neighbouring village, we are only too aware of how lucky we are to have been able to spend our lives here and now we want to be able to share our own little bit of heaven with others. Fifteen years ago we took over the adjoining 30 acre Oakfield Farm together with its small herd of Guernsey cows. This farm had changed very little since the 1940's. You will see our beef cattle with their young grazing the fields. At Mill Farm we used to rear pigs, but now only keep four at a time to produce our own pork and sausages. |
Oakfield and Mill Farm are on what was once the Dicker Common, an area between the Roman settlements at Ripe and the Anderida Forest. The scenery here changed abruptly in 1813 when the area was enclosed by Act of Parliament and all Oakfield boundary hedges date back to that time. The Mill Farm hedges are several hundred years older. |
